Romania: What Is a UIT Code and How to Use It
When transporting shipments to, from, or within Romania, a UIT transport code (Unique Identification Transport) may be required in certain cases. The code is used to monitor the transport of goods with higher value or weight.
When is a UIT code required?
The obligation applies only to selected shipments, specifically those that meet at least one of the following criteria:
- goods value exceeding 10,000 RON
- weight over 31.5 kg per parcel
- or total shipment weight exceeding 500 kg
What should you do if a UIT code is required?
- On the day of transport, by 12:00 noon, contact GLS Romania at: network@gls-romania.ro
- After receiving the transport details, generate the UIT code
- The UIT code must be sent back no later than 16:00
GLS will provide the necessary transport data and ensure coordination within the network.
The generation of the UIT code remains the responsibility of the customer.
