GLS Parcel Lockers in towns and municipalities
Convenient parcel pickup, even where options are limited.
Not everyone has the opportunity to pick up a parcel during standard business hours. Especially in smaller towns and villages, post offices or pickup points may have limited opening hours or might not be available in the immediate vicinity at all.
GLS Boxes offer residents a simple, flexible way to pick up or send parcels at a time that suits them—such as on their way home from work, while running errands, or at any time of day. These parcel lockers effectively complement existing local services, bringing delivery options closer to people who would otherwise have to travel to collect a parcel or adjust their schedules to fit a pickup point's opening hours.
However, the location and placement of the GLS Box are just as important to us as the service's accessibility. We aim to find solutions that are practical for residents while respecting the character of the specific site and the needs of the town or municipality.
Our approach to placing GLS Boxes
A location that makes sense
A well-placed parcel locker should make people's daily lives easier. When seeking a new location, we evaluate its accessibility and how conveniently both customers and GLS staff can use the unit. We also consider pedestrian traffic, surrounding vehicle traffic, and the space required for safe access to the locker. Ideally, the location also allows for short-term stopping nearby.
Respect for the surroundings
Every town, village, and specific location is unique. A location suitable for a parcel locker in one area may not be suitable in another. Therefore, when planning new installations, we take into account the character of the site and how local residents use the space. Our goal is to place a locker that is useful to people while blending naturally into its surroundings.
More accessible services for residents
A parcel locker can be particularly beneficial in areas where residents lack convenient access to other pickup points or where existing locations have limited opening hours.
For a municipality, this represents an additional service for residents without the need to build a traditional brick-and-mortar facility. People can pick up their parcels at a time that suits them, avoiding the need to travel to another part of town or a neighboring municipality for a standard delivery.
We want to communicate with cities and municipalities
We view cities and municipalities as key partners in expanding the GLS Box network. Local authorities often have the best understanding of the specific needs of a location and its residents.
That is why we are committed to open communication—not only when identifying new sites but also regarding existing GLS Box installations.
Parcel Locker Placement Code
GLS, along with other parcel locker operators, has adopted the Code for Parcel Locker Placement established by the Association for Electronic Commerce (APEK).
The Code outlines shared principles for the responsible placement of parcel lockers in cities and municipalities. It focuses on aspects such as safety, maintaining clear access in public spaces, the visual appearance of the lockers, and cooperation between operators and local authorities.
Do you have feedback on a GLS Box location?
It is important to us that GLS Boxes serve the community effectively while fitting in well with their surroundings.
Are you a representative of a city, municipality, or district with feedback regarding the location of a specific GLS Box? Does it obstruct movement in public spaces, is it poorly positioned, or does its operation cause other issues?
Please let us know. Our team responsible for the GLS Box network will review every submission. We will contact you if we need further information or if it is appropriate to address the situation together.
