GLS strengthens its network of pick-up points in partnership with Quadient
Milan, 12 November 2025 - GLS, one of the leading players in the express delivery sector in Italy, is reinforcing its growth strategy in high-value e-commerce services and announcing a new partnership with Quadient (Euronext Paris: QDT), a global intelligent automation platform enabling secure and professional business connections. The agreement aims to expand GLS's Out of Home (OOH) network nationwide through the introduction of carrier-agnostic parcel lockers.
GLS has already built a strong network of over 10,000 collection points throughout the country, including GLS Shops, Lockers and City Depots, with the aim of offering eCommerce businesses and end recipients ever-increasing quality thanks to flexibility and convenience. Among the most recent developments, the company has exceeded 100 active GLS Lockers in some of Italy's major cities – including Milan, Bergamo, Turin, Bologna and Rome – and has entered new partnerships with shopping centre management companies, supermarkets and major retail players to install Lockers within their facilities.
Under the 5-year partnership with Quadient, GLS will expand its network of collection points across the country with access to hundreds of carrier-agnostic Quadient lockers being installed over the next few years. Quadient’s model enables multiple carriers to operate within a shared infrastructure while maintaining dedicated spaces for their deliveries.
"We are proud to have signed this partnership with Quadient, a company that has made innovation its hallmark. This collaboration will enable us to accelerate the expansion strategy of our OOH network through the introduction of Quadient carrier-agnostic Lockers, improving the quality of service for our customers and bringing added value to the spaces and neighbourhoods of Italian cities where the new Lockers will be located," confirms Guido Pietro Bertolone, CEO of GLS Italy. "European data shows that 36% of consumers prefer an alternative delivery method to home delivery[1]. We strongly believe in the benefits that the OOH network can offer our customers. We aim to extend the presence of eCommerce to online shoppers, offering end recipients more collection options and improving last-mile efficiency. Investments in the growth of the OOH network, the expansion of Lockers and the partnership with Quadient are a step in this direction and demonstrate our commitment to making deliveries increasingly widespread and convenient for those who choose GLS."
With this initiative, GLS reaffirms its strategy of innovation and proximity to customer needs, continuing to strengthen its leadership in logistics and express delivery in Italy.
“Setting our first strategic alliance in Italy with GLS marks an important milestone in advancing Quadient’s open locker strategy across Europe,” said Benoit Berson, Chief Solution Officer, Lockers at Quadient. “GLS’s confidence in our vision and technology reflects the trust we are building with leading logistics players to create a shared, sustainable infrastructure. Together, we are shaping a more efficient, flexible and consumer-friendly last-mile ecosystem for Italian consumers.”

GLS inaugurates new Matera Depot: a step forward for growth and innovation throughout the province
Matera, 19 May 2025 - GLS, one of the main players in the express courier sector in Italy, inaugurates its new Matera Depot to offer its customers in the area an even faster and more efficient service.
The opening of the new facility, owned by Fast Services, GLS's official dealer for the Matera area, not only aims to improve the province's distribution network, but will also have an impact on the local community. The investment made in this new facility will, in fact, contribute to the development and growth of the Matera and surrounding area.
The Depot, which covers an area of over 5,000 square metres, incorporates the latest automated sorting technology and was designed according to BREEAM environmental sustainability criteria.
Designed to provide a modern and innovative working environment that fosters employee collaboration and productivity, the new Matera Depot has open-plan offices and multifunctional spaces, meeting areas and rooms equipped for training and refresher courses.
“The new Matera location is a strategic investment that confirms our commitment to innovation and service quality,’ says Luca Ruggieri, Director of Fast Services, GLS's official dealer for the territory since 1991. ‘Strengthening the logistics network in the territory means creating added value for our customers and new development opportunities”.
The Depot currently employs 32 people, with prospects for employment growth. In addition, an expansion of the distribution fleet is planned to strengthen the company's presence in the area and improve the efficiency of the service offered.
The location, between Via delle Fiere and Via dell'Industria, in the PAIP 2 Zone in Matera, a commercial area adjacent to the city, is a strategic choice and an advantage for client companies.
The inauguration of the new GLS Depot in Matera, located at Via delle Fiere 17, took place on Saturday 17 May. This was followed in the evening by a presentation event at the Guerrieri Theatre in Matera, attended by local authorities, customers, strategic partners and press representatives.
It was an important opportunity to recount not only the value of the investment, but also GLS's vision for logistics that is increasingly innovative and close to the needs of the region.

GLS expands its Out-of-Home Network in Italy
GLS, a leading player in the express delivery sector in Italy, has announced the launch of a major project to expand its Out-of-Home delivery network.
GLS expands its Out-of-Home Network in Italy
Milan, 26 March 2025 – GLS, a leading player in the express delivery sector in Italy, has announced the launch of a major project to expand its Out-of-Home delivery network.
Starting in early 2025, the first lockers will be deployed in major Italian cities, including Bergamo, Milan, Turin, and Rome. This initiative is part of an extensive plan to develop the Out-of-Home network, with the aim of becoming a major player in the industry. Over the next four years, GLS Italy plans to build a network of around 16,000 pick-up points, 4,000 of which will be lockers. The strategic objective is to progressively enhance e-commerce services by expanding pick-up options for end recipients and optimizing last-mile delivery through consolidated shipments at pick-up points.
The first locker was installed in Milan in January, marking a new chapter of Out-of-Home solutions for GLS Italy.
Following the success of GLS Shops and GLS City Depots, the introduction of lockers marks another step forward in the development of an increasingly extensive GLS Point network, which now includes over 8,000 locations in Italy. By expanding out-of-home pick-up points, GLS aims to reduce missed deliveries due to the recipient’s absence while offering online shoppers the flexibility to collect their parcels at their convenience, better aligning with modern lifestyle demands.
GLS’s expansion of the Out-of-Home network aligns with the latest trends in the e-commerce sector. Data show that around 36% of European consumers prefer an alternative delivery method to home delivery[1]. Currently, the GLS’s European network already includes 72,400 GLS Shops and 16,100 GLS lockers.
Lockers are therefore becoming a crucial enabler for e-commerce in Italy, offering greater flexibility for recipients and new business development opportunities for e-tailers. Additionally, traditional shops that host GLS lockers are expected to benefit from increased number of new potential customers and enhanced visibility.
‘This project is a key component of our broader innovation strategy,’ said Guido Pietro Bertolone, CEO of GLS Italy. ‘The installation of Lockers will not only enhance customer experience offered to private individuals and improve deliveries more efficiency for our e-tailers customers but will also enable more advanced modern digital services for recipients. Out-of-Home solutions are proving to be essential for meeting the growing demand for flexibility and accessibility in modern logistics.’
GLS Lockers, designed to ensure a simple and intuitive user experience, allow users to collect their parcels on their own by typing the PIN CODE of the shipment on the Locker's touch screen. These devices, available in current or battery-powered versions, will be installed in different types of locations, both indoor and outdoor, to offer maximum convenience to users.
