Barcelona, December 10, 2025 – GLS Spain today received an institutional visit to the construction site of its new multi-storey logistics centre, Barcelona South, located at Goodman’s City Hub in Barcelona, in the Zona Franca district. This is the company’s first multi-storey asset in Europe, developed in collaboration with Goodman, and it will strengthen last-mile distribution in the metropolitan area as well as the national and international connectivity of the GLS network.
The event was attended by Jordi Valls, Fourth Deputy Mayor of the Barcelona City Council, and, representing the companies, Roberto Martínez, CEO and Country Manager of GLS Spain, and Philippe Van der Beken, Managing Director, Goodman Continental Europe. During the visit, attendees took part in a technical tour of the site, where GLS and Goodman teams explained construction progress, technological solutions and the efficiency measures integrated into the project.
The visit allowed institutional representatives to see first-hand the scale of the facility and the impact it will have on urban parcel distribution, operational efficiency and the logistics competitiveness of Barcelona and its surrounding area.
A multi-storey, efficient and sustainable hub in a strategic location
Barcelona South is being developed on a 17,500 m² former industrial (brownfield) site and will comprise 20,298 m² of built surface area. Designed as a cross-dock parcel distribution facility, the building will feature 13,189 m² across three levels (ground floor: 7,074 m²; mezzanine: 528 m²; first floor: 5,587 m²), as well as 1,665 m² of modern and functional office space. Its location in the Zona Franca, 8.6 km from the airport and close to the Port of Barcelona, provides direct access to key maritime, air and land hubs, helping to reduce transit times.
The project will include 350–400 kWp of rooftop photovoltaic capacity and electric charging stations for last-mile fleets, along with a design that prioritises safety and employee wellbeing. The facility is scheduled to become operational in 2026, with a phased rollout to ensure service continuity.
For the construction, Goodman has contributed its expertise in the regeneration of industrial land and as a pioneer in the development and management of multi-storey facilities in Barcelona, as well as in the development of GLS’s main KM0 logistics centre in Madrid.
Barcelona, a gateway to and from Europe for the GLS network
The new hub will concentrate a core part of GLS’s last-mile distribution in the metropolitan area and a large share of outbound flows from its network of partners and agencies in the province, optimising national and international distribution flows. Together with the Barcelona North hub (Santa Perpètua de Mogoda), Barcelona will be consolidated as a key gateway to and from Europe for import and export flows from Iberia, strengthening interconnectivity with other strategic GLS platforms and improving transit times.
