How can I check the status of my order? Many consumers ask themselves this question every time they shop online. Customer satisfaction largely depends on meeting delivery deadlines, which is why being able to track a parcel in real time is essential. However, each delivery company has its own way of showing the status of a parcel at every stage.
With this quick guide, you’ll understand each step of the GLS delivery process.
Step 1: How to easily check the status of my order
The first step to knowing the status of your shipment is accessing the tracking page from the website or the app. In the case of GLS, you can check the information in the “Shipment Tracking” section or download the My GLS app, which allows you to track your order at any time.
To see your parcel status, you only need:
- The tracking number
- The destination postcode
With these two details, you’ll immediately see where your shipment is.
What if you don’t have the tracking number?
In that case, you must request it from your retailer so you can view the real-time status of your order.
Step 2: What “parcel in transit” means and other shipment statuses
When you access your tracking information, you’ll see different statuses representing the various stages a shipment goes through before reaching its destination.
- Label created: this means we have received the pre-registration of your shipment, but we have not yet physically received the parcel at our facilities.
- Shipment collected by GLS: your parcel is already somewhere within our network and the delivery process is about to begin.
- In transit: a parcel in transit is one that has already left the origin and is being transported to the delivery depot.
- Out for delivery: this means your parcel is in the hands of one of our couriers and will be delivered according to the service conditions and delivery route. Once your shipment is in this status, you can see how many stops are left before your delivery, along with an estimated delivery time.
- Delivered: this means the parcel has been handed over to you or to a person authorised by you.
Step 3: How to choose a Parcel Shop or convenience point: how tracking works
Sometimes it’s more convenient to collect a parcel from a convenience point rather than wait at home during a delivery time slot. That’s why GLS offers more than 11,500 Parcel Shops and Parcel Lockers to make collection easier.
If you choose this option, tracking works the same way as for home delivery, with one single difference:
you’ll receive a notification when the parcel is available at the selected location.
How to select a Parcel Shop:
- Go to “Shipment Tracking”
- Enter the tracking number and the postcode
- Click on “Collect at Parcel Shop”
- Choose the most convenient Parcel Shop and click “Select”
When your tracking shows the status “Delivered” or “Deposited at (Parcel Shop name)”, it means your parcel is ready for collection.
We offer extended opening hours to adapt to your needs—just check the opening times of the selected location, and remember you have 7 calendar days to pick up your parcel. Don’t forget to bring an official ID to collect it.
Step 4: What to do if the tracking status doesn’t change
If your shipment shows “Label created” and the status doesn’t update after a few days, it means the sender has provided the shipment information, but the parcel has not yet entered our network.
In this case, we recommend contacting your retailer directly, as they can confirm when the parcel will be handed over to GLS. Once they do, the tracking information will update automatically.
Step 5: What to do in case of delays or issues with tracking
If any issue appears in the tracking of your shipment, access the corresponding section to check what has happened and find the quickest possible solution.
Has your parcel not arrived?
You may have been absent at the time of delivery. In that case, our courier will leave instructions indicating where your parcel is—usually at a nearby Parcel Shop. You have 7 calendar days to collect it before it is returned to the sender.
Tracking statuses allow you to clearly see, in real time, where your parcel is and what steps you can take in each situation. Whether you receive your parcel at home or prefer to collect it from a Parcel Shop, understanding these stages will help you resolve any doubts and enjoy a smoother, more convenient delivery experience.
