Climate Protect | GLS Slovakia

At GLS Slovakia, we are aware of the environmental impacts associated with our operations. Every parcel and its related logistics and transport processes have an impact on natural resources and cause carbon emissions.

In 2020, GLS launched group-wide environmental strategy, Climate Protect, to implement a series of initiatives to progressively reduce carbon emissions. Our approach focuses on gradual improvements that take into account operational requirements, technical feasibility, and local conditions.

Our initiatives to gradually reduce carbon emissions

Vehicles

Conversion of the vehicle fleet

GLS continuously works to improve the efficiency of its vehicle fleet and to address emissions related to transport activities.

Vehicles operated by transport partners as well as company-owned vehicles are progressively renewed or replaced with newer models, where operational and technical conditions allow. When renewing the fleet, factors such as fuel consumption, available technologies, and local operating conditions are considered.

Electric vehicles

Increased use of electric vehicles

GLS Slovakia is gradually expanding the use of electric vehicles within its delivery network, particularly for parcel delivery in urban areas and selected locations.

Electric vehicles complement the existing fleet and their deployment depends on operational requirements and the availability of suitable charging infrastructure. As part of this approach, the GLS Slovakia fleet currently includes more than 100 electric vans.

Additional initiative supported by GLS Slovakia

„We Plant the Future“ – Tree Planting Programme in Slovakia Since 2021, GLS Slovakia, together with the Nadácia Ekopolis (Ekopolis Foundation), has co-founded the programme „We Plant the Future“, which supports tree planting activities implemented by local communities across Slovakia.

The programme is designed to support municipalities, schools and civic initiatives involved in tree planting and the subsequent care of greenery. Its primary purpose is to enable locally driven environmental activities and to encourage community participation in the care of public green spaces.

The Ekopolis Foundation is responsible for the professional management of the programme, including the selection, coordination and monitoring of supported projects, based on defined criteria and its long-standing expertise in environmental and community-based initiatives. GLS Slovakia, as a co-founder of the programme, provides financial and organisational support for its implementation.

The programme may include the participation of public figures in selected activities with the aim of supporting public awareness of tree planting initiatives.

„We Plant the Future“ is an initiative supported by GLS Slovakia within its approach to corporate responsibility and cooperation with external expert partners. The programme is not presented as a measure to offset or compensate the company’s environmental impacts, but as support for locally implemented environmental and community activities.
