Protecting our environment is a guiding principle

Environmental protection is the main principle of the company.

In 2008, GLS launched its ThinkGreen environmental initiative in order to coordinate and proactively foster the diverse array of activities within the GLS Group.

The objectives: responsible handling of resources, the reduction of emissions and the optimisation of waste disposal.

We think and act in an environmentally friendly manner in all areas of the company: from transport planning and buildings through to individual workplaces.

Our GLS Clima Protect strategy and our sustainable parcel shipping are based on avoiding and reducing greenhouse emisson offsetting and compensating for remaining impacts.

Protecting the environment is an important strategic goal of the "Climate protect" program - we think ecologically.

As part of this strategy, we have refreshed our vehicle fleet with 21 eSprinter electrical vans. They will be delivering emission-free in Bratislava and in all regional cities in Slovakia. After a practical and successful test period, the eSprinter has revealed itself the ideal solution.

By the end of the year, GLS Slovakia plans to further expand its fleet of electric vehicles.

The tree as a symbol of life - We plant the future

GLS Slovakia is setting a green future.

The company GLS Slovakia in cooperation with the Ekopolis foundation founded the project We are planting the future, because they see a sense of the future in it.

The main idea of the project is also to support the initiatives and activities of local communities that participate in it.

At the same time, the Planting the Future project is a useful measure to make the country more beautiful, colorful and resilient to the effects of climate change.

Ambassadors - personalities who plant the future are: Adela Vinczeová, Erik Baláž, Lucka Pašková and others.

Climate protection measures

At GLS Slovakia, we do everything to reduce the amount of CO2 produced by our business. However, we know that we cannot reduce everything immediately. That's why we've introduced our Climate Protect carbon offset program to compensate European customers for the inevitable emissions from our European GLS operations, as well as the entire journey of GLS parcels, from pickup to delivery worldwide.

Corporate projects

The project of the Peruvian Amazon with the highest biodiversity in the world protects 100,000 hectares (it was threatened by the construction of the Transamazonica road) and thus saves 660,000 tons of carbon from the atmosphere every year.

A project in Brazil's Ammonia protects carbon emissions by preventing deforestation. This project protects 148,000 hectares of land and saves 264,000 tons of carbon.

The project in the Indian city of Jodhpur, thanks to its desert location, offered space to build a solar power plant. It annually supplies 416,000 megawatt hours of clean energy to the network. This will save 393,000 tons of CO2 per year.

In the Indian state of Gujarat, the production of electrical energy from fossil fuels significantly prevailed. The wind power plant project brought an improvement, as it saves 145,000 tons of CO2 annually.

Local projects

To support a green future for the next generation, we have become the General Partner of the project - We plant the future from 2021, because we see the sense in it, since the trees that will be planted will serve as compensation for emissions in the future.

Vehicles
Conversion of the vehicle fleet

GLS is increasing fuel efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. All vehicles in the fleet – i.e. those used by our transport partners and the in-house fleet of company cars – are gradually being replaced with more eco-friendly models.

Electric vehicles
Increased use of electric vehicles

GLS is increasingly turning to alternative delivery methods. Starting in April 2021, GLS Slovakia expanded its vehicle fleet by 21electric e-vnas eSprinter. These vehicles reduce our emissions and complement our existing fleet.

×
Transport planning
Increased use of electric vehicles

GLS uses state-of-the-art, IT-assisted planning instruments to improve operating processes and transport routes. Journey lengths are systematically minimised through optimised route planning.
