How to spot a fake inquiry

Scammers use many tricks to gain your trust. They will try to make you believe that you have received a legitimate email or SMS, or that they are another real person sending you a message.

It can be difficult to distinguish between real and fake messages because scammers can misuse logos, names, and similar email addresses. On social media, they may use the real profile picture of a person to give the impression the message is coming from the person. Below, you will find tips on how to spot a scam message.

Be especially alert if

  • You receive a request for payment and you do not know what the payment is for
  • Any messages that request you to first pay a smaller sum of money to receive a larger sum back later.
  • The message demands urgent payment and contains aggressive treats such as legal action or destroying the shipment if you do not react immediately. Fraudulent messages often try to create a false sense of urgency with treats or aggressive behavior.
  • You receive a message that claims to be related to a GLS-shipment, but the message does not contain a tracking number or the tracking number returns no results on the tracking available on the GLS website.
  • A message you receive in the name of GLS contains a lot of misspelled words or grammatical errors, logos or images that are of poor quality or that clearly differ from the usual graphical appearance of a genuine message from GLS. If you receive a fake inquiry, ignore the message and avoid contacting the sender. Consider deleting the inquiry. If your email service provides an option to report a phishing message, you can do so. This helps others avoid receiving fake inquiries.

If you are unsure whether the message is genuine

If you are unsure whether the message, invoice, or other contact you received is genuinely from GLS, you can contact GLS using the contact information found on this website or another reliable source. However, do not trust the contact details in the suspicious message or follow any links it may contain.
