Delivering parcels in Finland
Receiving parcels via GLS is always easy and effortless, and the exact delivery process of the parcel depends on the type of recipient and the additional services that the sender is using.
Parcels to private recipients
The private recipients' parcels to Finland are usually delivered to the nearest Matkahuolto collection point. You can track your shipment at every stage in the GLS tracking system. Once the parcel has arrived at the pickup point you will receive an arrival notification via SMS, email or letter, depending on the contact information recorded for the shipment. The arrival notice also shows the address and opening information of the pickup point. You can also find this information on the Matkahuolto website with the tracking number listed as "Finland Parcel Number" in the GLS Track&Trace after the parcel has arrived to Finland. When you retrieve the parcel, you need photo ID, and the pickup code visible in the arrival notice.
Large or heavy (over 30 kg/parcel) shipments are delivered to private customers’ addresses. In these cases, the delivery is attempted during working hours. If the delivery attempt fails depending on the area an arrival notification is left about the shipment, or the recipient is contacted regarding second delivery attempt, if contact details have been provided.
Parcels for business recipients
Parcels for companies and other organisations are delivered to their premises. You can track your shipment in GLS’ parcel tracking and thus prepare for the arrival of the delivery. If the delivery fails (for example, if the company is closed), an arrival notice is left at the address (if possible) and, depending on the region, the shipment will be delivered to a local post office or returned to the distribution centre to wait for a second delivery attempt.
If the sender has selected the FlexDeliveryService add-on service, you can amend the shipment delivery flexibly, whether you are a company or a private recipient. In FlexDeliveryService, after sending the parcel, you will receive an email with a link that enables you to amend the delivery of your parcel:
Request that the parcel is delivered to the post office of your choice.
Request that the parcel is left in a SmartPost parcel locker of your choice.
Request delivery to the premises (business addresses only)
Change the delivery address for the parcel (business addresses only)
After the amendment, delivery will take place according to your instructions. You can make amendments until the parcel has arrived in Finland and transferred to domestic distribution. If you do not make any amendments to the delivery of the parcel, it will be delivered according to the default delivery methods listed above, depending on the address type.
