Track a consignment via SMS
With GLS, senders and recipients can track their parcels at any time. After entering the parcel number (also shipment number) or Track ID, detailed information appears on-screen about the parcel and the delivery process itself. This includes the estimated delivery day and the most recently carried-out action. Parcel tracking is free of charge. Anyone sending or expecting several parcels can track them all simultaneously using the online tracking function. How it works: Each parcel label includes a 2D barcode. It contains all the necessary parcel data, including the parcel number. The code is scanned at all the main transport points and the current position and the most recently performed action is transmitted to the GLS system.
This is important for the entire logistics coordination process. GLS makes the information available via the online parcel tracking function, meaning that you too can track your parcel at any time. When the parcel, for example, is loaded into a delivery vehicle, the drivers scan the code on the label with their hand-held scanners. Even if the recipient is not present at the time of the delivery attempt, the scanner still comes into operation. The driver then scans the notification card, which is left behind for the recipient. In many countries, the driver sends the delivery information via mobile data transmission directly to GLS, thus making them available in real-time. All the data is collated in the GLS system. Consignment tracking is then possible using both the parcel number and the Track ID, from the notification card.
