ThinkSocial – social responsibility
For people of today and tomorrow
People of different ethnic origin, culture, religion or belief work at and for GLS. Appreciation, respect and understanding in interacting with employees and partners are important principles of the Group.
An intensive exchange with all transport partners, who serve the last mile for GLS in the collection and delivery of parcels, is an integral part of the cooperation.
Staff development is a fundamental aspect of the GLS strategy as the Group seeks to ensure long-term success for the company and its employees.
Furthermore, it is very important for the management and staff to support people in need of help. GLS companies throughout Europe promote selected initiatives within their social environment – by direct sponsorships as well as by providing free transportation services.
Training and professional development
GLS is committed to the training and development of the next generation. Young people receive a substantial and practice-oriented vocational training. For employees, the GLS Group offers professional development opportunities and leadership openings.
In Germany, for example, GLS offers vocational training in the courier, express and parcel segment. To inform future talents about these and other possibilities, GLS Germany introduced in 2017 [Link] a new career website [Path: www.gls-karriere.de]. GLS also trains office administrators, IT technicians, office communication staff and system integration technicians. Dual degree programmes for logistics management and business informatics are run in cooperation with technical universities. An internal business administration program complements the training offer.
GLS uses its country-specific structures to promote selected initiatives in each specific social environment. The GLS subsidiaries support various charity projects with national and regional activities.
For example, free parcel transport is carried out for children's charities. There are sponsorships of foundations for people with mental or physical disabilities. At local level, many GLS depots financially support kindergartens, schools, hospitals, hospices and other non-profit organizations. For example, GLS Ireland gives employees the opportunity to volunteer for a charitable organisation – while the employees get paid for a full working day. GLS US participated in the country-wide brain tumor awareness month. On May 18, everyone at GLS US was wearing grey at work to demonstrate their support and bring an often suppressed issue to the public’s awareness.
Further activities can be found on the websites of the GLS subsidiaries as well in the Group’s Corporate Responsibility Report .
Sports and culture sponsoring
As a part of modern society, GLS gets involved in sport and cultural projects: GLS Ireland has been one of the main sponsors of Triathlon Ireland, the sport’s governing body, since 2017. GLS Belgium is sponsoring the Belgian national football team, combining it with social commitment. Staff, partners and people with disabilities are invited to each home game of the team. GLS Italy sponsors the second Italian football league Lega B as well as several regional clubs. GLS Germany is the main sponsor of the German Athletics Association, the biggest athletics association in the world. GLS Poland is the official sponsor of the Poland National Speedway Team and also supports the annual Poland Business Run. In many other countries, GLS depots promote local sports clubs.
Since 2012, the GLS Group is the official logistics partner of the European Film Academy and carries out transports in connection with the European Film Awards. Furthermore, GLS Poland supports the foundation Legalna Kultura, which works for an increased awareness of intellectual property rights.
