New: GLS SameDay delivery for regular senders
With GLS SameDay, GLS provides regular senders with delivery on the same evening, making it the first parcel company to provide this premium service completely within its own network. The goods must be regionally available and ready for collection at the agreed time. Delivery is then carried out on the same evening within a time frame of between 17.30 and 22.00 – ideal for working people.
Update: GLS App offers lots of useful functions
Whether they are the sender or the recipient, with the updated GLS App, GLS customers benefit from numerous practical functions. The entire dispatch and payment process can be completed on the go. In addition, there are useful features such as the price calculator and Track & Trace. Saved on a smartphone as a QR code, the packing slip can be conveniently printed out in the nearest ParcelShop. The route planer shows you the way there.
Current issues: Security advice
Beware of counterfeit parcel labels: GLS parcel labels to be filled out manually are currently being offered on the Internet. These are counterfeit and are therefore not accepted by GLS.
Beware of increased deception attempts on the doorstep: Scammers have tried to defraud unsuspecting people of cash by delivering what they claim are cash-on-delivery parcels in a number of areas in Germany. As part of the deception they dress in the uniform of a well-known delivery company such as GLS. We strongly advise you not to pay for unexpected cash-on-delivery parcels – neither for yourself nor on behalf of neighbours.
B2C: Delivery to private recipients
Private recipients shall receive their goods fast, reliable and secure. This is why the parcel is delivered where they wish: to the door, placed on the terrace or at a GLS ParcelShop. Generally, GLS undertakes two delivery attempts right to the door.
In addition, GLS offers different services for the delivery to private recipients. The free of charge FlexDeliveryService for example with which recipients are informed about the delivery day and time frame, and can choose from various delivery options.
Parcel delivery made to measure: using the GLS shipping planner, you quickly find out which combination meets your specific needs. Simply enter the parcel dimensions as well as the starting point and destination of your consignment. The GLS shipping planner will immediately show you the available product and service combination.
Index-oriented diesel surcharge
GLS charges a diesel surcharge because of the fluctuation of the crude oil prices which has a significant impact on the transport costs.
The current amount of the fuel surcharge is 11.0 %.
Since 16 September 2013, new documentation requirements have been in force for intra-Community deliveries. A transition system is in place, meaning that the old documentation requirements are acceptable until 31.12.2013. From next year, however, in order to gain exemption from VAT, senders must prove that goods have actually been delivered to a receiver in another EU country. To this end, GLS will provide customers with a Track&Trace log.
Toll traffic surcharge
Considerable costs arise for the use of traffic routes. GLS is also affected by these. GLS is not responsible for these costs and can neither totally avoid nor compensate them. Therefore a part of the costs must be passed on to its customers. They are listed separately in invoices as "Toll traffic surcharge". This contains the usage of toll roads in local and long-distance transport as well as an additional component for traffic for the national and international parcel dispatch.
