Fast and reliable – that is how you want to receive your parcel. And that’s precisely how GLS wants to deliver parcels on behalf of senders.
Contactless delivery - receive your parcels safely
In the current coronavirus situation, personal contacts should be avoided as much as possible. Therefore please use the possibility of a contactless delivery in order to protect yourself and the delivery drivers from a possible infection. Find more information here:
Standard parcel delivery
Ideally a parcel is delivered to you personally. You then confirm the parcel acceptance with your signature on the handheld scanner of the delivery driver. Another member of your household can also accept your parcel on your behalf.
Delivery and transport times
GLS delivers parcels on working days from Monday to Friday (optionally on Saturday) – in Germany usually within 24 hours. This standard delivery time is not assured or guaranteed, however. Parcels are transported by road, so traffic holdups can lead to delays.
If nobody is present
GLS asks a neighbour if they can accept the parcel for you. If no neighbour can accept your parcel, GLS will take it to the nearest ParcelShop – if there is one nearby (does not apply for tyres). The parcel can be collected there within the next eight working days after the day of the delivery attempt.
If no delivery is possible – not even at a neighbour or a nearby GLS ParcelShop – GLS will take the parcel back to the depot (distribution centre), where it is available for collection for the next four working days after the day of the delivery attempt.
If the parcel cannot be delivered to the specified delivery address, the delivery driver will leave a notification card. It holds key information such as the neighbour’s name, information about the ParcelShop or about the GLS depot. Furthermore you can give authority to a person you know, so the person is allowed to collect parcels in your name.
Moreover: everything about the drop off permission. With it, you can authorise GLS to leave parcels at an agreed location.
Your "Track ID"
On the notification card is a number, the "Track ID". You can use either this number or the parcel number to track your parcel online as well as from your smartphone.
The Track ID is particularly important if GLS took your parcel back to the depot. Then you can use the number to redirect the parcel online. This means, you can decide yourself what happens next.
- A second delivery attempt to the originally-specified address – you select the day.
- Delivery to another address of your choice.
- Parcel delivery to a GLS ParcelShop of your choice (not possible for tyres)
- Issue a drop off permission. The delivery driver can deliver your parcel to the address you specify.
- Refuse acceptance. The parcel is returned to the sender.
- Collect the parcel yourself at the depot. The parcel remains in the depot and is available for collection for four working days. There is no new delivery attempt.
- An additional delivery attempt in the evening (between 5.30 p.m. and 10 p.m.) or on a Saturday (between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.). Available in various postcode areas in Berlin, Bonn, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Leipzig, Munich and Nuremberg.
Second delivery attempt
GLS will undertake a second delivery attempt if no neighbour is able to accept the parcel and there is no ParcelShop nearby. If you choose a redirection option, the course of action will be according to your individual wish.
