Detailed process description

Senders receive orders, prepare the dispatch and transfer the usual shipment data to GLS via the dispatch system – and additionally the e-mail address or mobile telephone number of the parcel recipient. This way, they activate the flexible delivery options for this parcel. GLS informs the recipients by e-mail or via text message about the upcoming dispatch and the expected time frame. GLS also sends a link which directly leads to the GLS Delivery Manager where recipients can choose from several delivery options – and influence parcel delivery according to their personal needs.

When the delivery driver scans the parcel in the morning of the delivery, a second e-mail or text message is sent automatically to the recipient containing an exact date and time frame of delivery. The telephone number of the delivery driver and GLS customer service is also included. At this time, the GLS Delivery Manager cannot be used anymore.

Should the first delivery attempt be unsuccessful, recipients are automatically informed via e-mail or text message. The message contains a link which directly leads to the webpage of the GLS Delivery Manager where all delivery options for the parcel are available and recipients can once again choose what happens next.

Third delivery attempt

GLS usually makes two delivery attempts.

However, if the sender has ordered the FlexDeliveryService, GLS may, if necessary, make a third attempt, again preceded by an information message.
