GLS supports: culture and society
Allegiance to "Mimo Wszystko"
Reliability in aid: Since 2011, GLS supports the non-profit organization founded by popular actress Anna Dymna. Mimo Wszystko (Despite Everything) cares for mentally handicapped and chronically sick people throughout the country. Among others, they operate “Sun Valley”, a therapeutic and rehabilitation center for people with intellectual disabilities and organize concerts as well as theater projects.
GLS enchanted song competition
GLS was one of the sponsors of “Zaczarowana piosenka" (The Enchanted Songs Festival) organized by the Anna Dymna charity foundation “Mimo Wszystko”. Hundreds of people with different kinds of disabilities participated in this song contest. In 2016 the semi-finals and final of the competition were broadcasted by TVP2.
GLS helps the children survive the winter
Dry food, toys and products of daily use: During the Christmas season GLS delivered 800 parcels containing relief supplies to the poorest families in the country. All parcels were dispatched in the GLS depot in Lublin, the majority of them reached the recipients located in the east of Poland. Local media stations supported and ran stories on this event.
Parcels for puppies, fish for kids
One Polish zloty for every sent parcel! That is the motto of the GLS ParcelShop campaigns. In 2016, GLS donated 5,000 zloty towards the purchase of equipment for the animal shelter in Bydgoszcz. Useful equipment like plush houses, sleeper plastic bags and scratching boards were given to kitten and puppies in need.
During the 2015 campaign, the proceeds were used to buy an aquarium for the Children’s Home No. 3 in Poznan.
Christmas presents for families in need
In each of us lies the desire to help: For the second year in a row, GLS employees and couriers assumed social responsibility: They joined the nationwide project “Szlachetna paczkq” (Noble Package) and provided dozens of packages for six needy families. The parcels contained items of daily use as well as so-called "Special requests", like a bicycle, a waffle iron or an electric razor. The final of this action took place 10-11 December – making Christmas joyful for 19,000 families in total all over the country.
GLS supports "WeGirls foundation"
The “WeGirls” foundation deals with one of the most traumatic consequences of cancer treatment and operations: the loss of hair. Hair salons throughout Poland provide hair donations to the foundation. GLS carts the hair donations from the hairdressers to the foundation.
Digital diversity, freedom and responsibility
The campaign “Kultura na Widoku” (culture on view) is an activity in the public space of Polish cities, organized by the foundation “Legalna Kultura” (legal culture). It gives access to free or very low-priced digital versions of movies, books, games, music pieces and archives. The campaign is meant to raise awareness for legal download sources and to encourage people to use them. To inform about the project, Legalna Kultura sent out 20,000 posters to the visited cities. GLS transported them all for free.
Giant garden chess for pupils
Strategy, tactics, long-term concentration – playing chess helps developing useful skills. Thus, 38 pupils from primary, secondary and upper-secondary school competed in the 1st Chess Memorial. It was held at the Museum of Silesian Uprisings in Świętochłowice in April 2016. GLS supported the event and donated a giant garden chess set to JEDYNKA, the chess circle of the Szkolnego Koła Szachowego school.
A library for employees
Free of charge – but not for nothing: For professional and personal development, GLS allocates a library for their employees. In this library, they can borrow books and audiobooks on a variety of subjects, including human resource development, sales and presentation techniques. Employees can also recommend books to buy and topics they are interested in.
GLS delivers the EFA trophies
For the fifth time in a row, GLS has been active as the official logistics partner of the European Film Academy (EFA). In 2016, the 29th edition of the European Film Awards was presented in Wroclaw – that year’s European Capital of Culture. This made it a very special event for GLS Poland.
GLS delivers the silver statuettes presented during the awards ceremony to the event location. After a detour back to their London-based designer for engraving, the trophies are brought to the honourees’ homes all over Europe.
