Flexible in delivering

Satisfied recipients. Successful senders. GLS informs recipients via e-mail or text message about the upcoming delivery of parcels – including an estimated time frame for the delivery. The recipient can actively influence the delivery of the parcel by choosing from a number of delivery options via the GLS Delivery Manager.

Delivery options – selectable before start of shipment and after a first unsuccessful delivery attempt

  • Delivery to the same address on a specific date
  • Delivery to a new address
  • Delivery to a designated place without POD
  • Collection at a GLS depot
  • Refusal of acceptance

The process in detail

Step 1: Information at the start of dispatch

Senders receive orders, prepare the dispatch and transfer the usual shipment data to GLS via the dispatch system – and additionally the e-mail address or mobile telephone number of the parcel recipient. This way, they activate the flexible delivery options for this parcel. GLS informs the recipients by e-mail or via text message about the upcoming dispatch and the standard delivery time. GLS also sends a link which directly leads to the GLS Delivery Manager where recipients can choose from several delivery options – and influence parcel delivery according to their personal needs.

Step 2: Communication of estimated delivery time frame

When the delivery driver scans the parcel in the morning of the delivery, a second e-mail or text message is sent automatically to the recipient containing a three-hour delivery time frame. The telephone number of the delivery driver and the customer service is also included. At this time the GLS Delivery Manager cannot be used anymore.

Step 3: Provision of delivery options to choose from

Should the first delivery attempt be unsuccessful, recipients are automatically informed via e-mail or text message. The message contains a link which directly leads to the webpage of the GLS Delivery Manager where all delivery options for the parcel are available and recipients can once again choose what happens next.
