GLS takes care of customs clearance. The central Customs Department completes and submits the electronic export declaration.

The consignor sends the customs invoice to the responsible GLS depot by e-mail or fax. The export declaration is issued prior to dispatch of the parcel.

Background

Since July 2009 export declarations have had to be submitted electronically to customs authorities. This applies when shipping goods to non-EU countries and to countries that belong to EFTA (European Free Trade Association).
