Investment in increased sustainability
GLS is implementing sustainability measures across all parts of the company.
Economic and environmental concerns often go hand in hand.
However, climate protection initiatives also often require significant investment and additional workload.

Electric vehicles
Three electric vans are required to take the place of two conventional delivery vehicles. This is because the electric vans that are currently available have a lower load capacity and range. In the case of e-bikes, these two values are also considerably lower.
The higher number of vehicles also means that more delivery drivers are needed on the road.
In terms of purchasing price, electric vans are almost twice as expensive as comparable diesel vehicles.

Depots and infrastructure
The necessary charging infrastructure for the electric vehicles needs to be established in the depots, which involves considerable costs.
The energy required for charging will be acquired from renewable sources in the future, so the electric vehicles will then be truly sustainable in their operation.
Investment is also required for the environmentally friendly furnishing of new depot buildings and refurbishments. This includes rainwater utilisation systems and energy-saving LED lighting systems at GLS.

Local micro depots
Investment is also required in order to set up micro depots. Even small spaces or properties in suitable areas often involve high rental costs.
